I’m Kirsten. I was born in Inverness, Scotland and grew up in the beautiful – if bleak – Highlands and Islands, where I developed a love for nature and solitude, both of which I subsequently denied myself for quarter of a century by living almost exclusively in cities. Over the years I have lived in Edinburgh, Shanghai, London, Westcliff-on-Sea and Bath.
In 2022 my husband and I decided we’d had enough of exhaust fumes and the constant hum of traffic and relocated to North Cornwall, where we purchased a 2.5-acre piece of land which contains, variously, a crumbling 17th century stone house which was likely once the parish courthouse, an accompanying walled garden/jungle, an overgrown vegetable garden, an abandoned pottery and a piece of magical woodland with a stream running through it. Everything was in desperate need of repair/care and almost all of it was covered in ivy.
Two and a half years into our new life, Fiddian, my beloved husband, died suddenly and unexpectedly, throwing my life – and our plans – into chaos. I am currently trying to come to terms with his death, and to understand what my future now holds.
